Web design in Nuremberg

Startup web design in Nuremberg: start small, grow cleanly

Landing page first, full website later. A fixed price, solid technology and one point of contact based in Fürth.

In a nutshell

Nuremberg startups rarely need a big website on day one. A landing page is often enough to test an idea, and it typically costs 1,500 to 4,500 Euro on the market. A full corporate design runs 2,500 to 8,000 Euro. If you get the technical foundations right early, you extend later instead of starting over.

Startups rarely have six months to spare for a website project.

The idea is new. Money is tight. And the whole direction might shift after three customer conversations.

That is why traditional web design often feels like a poor fit for founders. Many agencies think in big packages. A young team needs something different: get visible fast, learn early, then build out properly.

This page shows what that looks like in practice in Nuremberg, with clear phases, market prices and a realistic timeline.

A startup website on a tight budget

A startup does not need a big website to launch. It needs one page that answers one question: does anyone actually want this?

At the start, the number of subpages is irrelevant.

What matters is whether visitors understand what you offer, and whether they take action: join a waitlist, request a demo, get in touch.

A good landing page does exactly that. On the market it costs 1,500 to 4,500 Euro. A company website with 5 to 12 pages runs 4,000 to 9,000 Euro. For many founders that is too much at launch, and often unnecessary.

Picture a common scenario. Two founders have a product idea and no customers yet. They need a sharp message, a contact form and a waitlist. Nothing more.

Everything else can wait. Team page, blog, press, careers: those come once there is something to say.

What should not wait is the price.

A fixed price protects your budget. You know exactly what the final invoice will say. I give you a fixed price after our initial call. Before that call I do not know the scope. After it, I do. You can read how this works in detail under web design at a fixed price.

If you prefer hourly billing, it helps to know the range. Experienced freelancers charge 70 to 120 Euro per hour, excluding VAT. Agencies charge 90 to 200 Euro.

From landing page to full website

A startup website grows in phases. Each phase has its own goal and its own budget.

Working in phases takes the pressure off.

You do not have to have every answer on day one.

Phase one: the landing page

One page, one message, one goal. It tests whether your offer resonates. It collects contacts. It gives investors a link to click. You can see how such a page is structured in the guide to landing pages.

Phase two: the small website

Now you have your first customers, and the same questions keep coming up. Those questions become subpages: features, pricing, about, contact. A small website with up to 5 pages costs 1,500 to 3,500 Euro on the market.

Phase three: the full website

The product is out there. The team is growing. Now a blog, case studies and a careers page start to pay off. Maybe multiple languages too.

The real trick is in the transitions.

Phase two builds on phase one. Phase three builds on phase two. Nobody throws work away.

That only works if the structure is designed with growth in mind from the start: clean content, clear building blocks, a system for colors and type. Then the next step is an extension.

Not a rebuild.

Branding and website: what you really need at launch

At launch, a lean foundation of logo, colors and typeface is enough. A full corporate design can grow alongside the startup.

Many founders face the same question. Brand first, then website? Or both at once?

The honest answer: both, just at different depths.

Branding is the system behind everything: logo, colors, typography, tone of voice. The website is where that system shows up in public for the first time.

A complete corporate design costs 2,500 to 8,000 Euro on the market. It often includes stationery, presentation templates and a detailed brand manual. For a startup in its first few months, that is usually premature. The positioning is still moving, and the manual would be outdated within six months.

A core set is often enough.

A logo that works both small and large. Two or three colors. One typeface for headlines and one for body text. A few sentences on how you want to sound.

That core carries the landing page. It also carries your first investor deck and your business card.

Once the direction firms up, it can grow into a full corporate design. More on that in the guide to branding and corporate design.

Only one thing really matters here: design and website have to feel like they came from the same hand. Otherwise the startup looks pieced together.

Technology that grows with you: website, MVP and scalability

The website sells the product. The MVP is the product. The two should fit together without being glued to each other.

Many startups build two things at the same time: a website that explains, and an MVP, the first working version of the software.

They do different jobs. The website has to load fast, be found in search and be easy to update. The MVP has to work, store data securely and be easy to change.

That is why they are usually kept technically separate.

The website might live at yourstartup.com and the application at app.yourstartup.com. That way the team can change copy without touching the product.

Which technology fits

For the website, WordPress is often a good choice because the team can manage content itself. A lean, hand-coded site built with HTML, CSS and JavaScript is even faster, but it needs a developer more often.

The MVP has different priorities: databases, user accounts and APIs. A proven framework like Laravel already brings much of that out of the box.

Understanding scalability properly

Early on, scalability does not mean building for a million users.

It means building cleanly. Code that a second developer can understand. Content that can be extended. Hosting that grows with you.

An MVP for a software idea costs 12,000 to 40,000 Euro on the market. More on that under SaaS MVP development.

Process and timeline to launch in Nuremberg

A landing page is often live within two to four weeks. Short distances between Nuremberg and Fürth keep the process simple.

It starts with a conversation: 15 to 30 minutes and an honest assessment. Afterwards it is clear what you need to launch and what can wait.

Then comes the fixed price, followed by copy, design and build.

Most delays do not happen during the build. They happen because of missing copy and open decisions. Clarify your message early and you save weeks.

A landing page is often live within two to four weeks. A small website with brand essentials takes closer to six to eight weeks. An MVP takes longer, usually several months.

The Nuremberg startup scene

Nuremberg has a lively startup scene. The Zollhof startup hub is based here, along with spin-offs from TH Nürnberg and FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. Many teams come from tech, healthcare or industry.

For teams like these, being close by is practical.

Meeting in a café is quicker to arrange than three video calls. Fürth sits right next to Nuremberg, and that is where I work as a freelancer, with no agency in between.

That means one point of contact. Design, code and strategy from a single source, backed by more than 20 years on the web.

After launch, the website keeps evolving. For WordPress sites I offer a maintenance plan for 59 Euro per month, excluding VAT. It covers WordPress and plugin updates, daily backups and a monthly functionality check.

Is a landing page enough to get started?

For most startups, yes. It explains what you offer, collects leads and tests demand. You can add more pages once you have your first customers and know what they actually ask.
